There is no such thing as a typical session, because everyone is unique there is no such thing as a typical client. That aside, there are a few things that are common within many sessions and I would like to tell you, as much as is possible, what to expect from hypnotherapy with me.
All sessions start with a conversation about why you have come to see me, and what you would like to get from our meeting.
We will then probably move onto trying to pick apart the nature of the issue you would like to examine, and often we will discuss how getting a better understanding of the issue will remove barriers, and help to make the hypnosis even more effective.
If you have come to see me to stop smoking then this will be a much longer conversation than if you have come to see me for a phobia. Typically this conversation will be under 10 minutes but in some instances may last up to an hour.
Once we have established why you’re there, and possibly challenged some limiting beliefs about your situation, we will move on to doing some work. This will involve trying a few things out to see how you respond. There is no passing or failing with any of the things we try, and no wrong answers to any questions I ask. We are simply seeing what you respond best to, in an effort to begin teasing apart and then fully getting to grips with the issue at hand.
Many of the things I will initially try don’t look like hypnosis to the casual observer, and even some hypnotherapists would argue that they are not. Techniques such as Kinetic Shift and The Swan don’t inherently contain any trance or altered state aspects, however, by the definition I work to they are certainly within the description of hypnosis.
With that in mind, it is very likely that at some point we will do something that, most would agree, looks like hypnosis. During this part of the session, you will still be fully conscious and aware at all times, in fact, you will be hyper-aware and super-focussed, and you will hear every word I say. You will not lose control and you will be able to accept or reject any suggestions of your own free will.
More information about this part of the work can be seen in my article titled What is Hypnosis and What is Hypnotherapy?
At the end of the session you will feel relaxed but alert and sharp, like you have awoken from a refreshing snooze.
Hopefully this gives you a good idea of what to expect from hypnotherapy with me, and allays any concerns you may have, but please feel free to call me on 07967473691 with any questions or to book a session.
