PRESS RELEASE: Sudbury Businesses Offer Pain Free Tattoos via Hypnosis
Two Sudbury based businesses have joined forces to offer a rather unique service. Illustrated Primate on Kings Street is now offering pain free tattoos with the assistance of hypnotist Benjamin Ryan of Sudbury Hypnosis on Gainsborough Street.
Tattoos are an ever more popular form of self expression, but many people are put off by the pain. This could be the service they have been waiting for.
Earlier in the year the two companies worked together on a series of experiments and are now offering it as a commercial service.
“I was a bit sceptical to start with,” said Joe Hill, Tattoo Artist, “but having seen a few of these now I can say for certain there is something going on. I’m even going to get hypnotised for the next session on my own tattoos. I want to be able to tell customers what it is like first hand”.
Lee Dobbs, also a tattooist at the shop, has already undergone hypnosis during the latest work on his back piece. Lee said of the experience “I was completely comfortable, I was able to communicate and talk easily to people. To talk to me you wouldn’t have even known I was being tattooed. This was a very different experience from previous sessions.”
Hypnosis for pain management, including analgesia and even total anaesthesia, is a well documented phenomena. Most notably, Scottish surgeon James Braid travelled India in the early 1800s and documented extensive use of hypnosis as the only means of pain management during surgery. Noted American hypnotist Dave Elman further pioneered this work in the mid 20th Century.
Hypnosis for pain free tattoos is a much newer idea, but there are a number of hypnotists and tattoo artists now experimenting in this area.
“I did some experiments with hypno-anaesthesia a while ago, and I’ve wanted to try this ever since”, Said Benjamin Ryan, “Thanks to the excellent artists at Illustrated Primate I’ve now had that opportunity and it’s proven to be a success.”
“Most of the clients come to see me at Gainsborough Therapy Rooms first, to get an experience of hypnosis before their tattoo session. On one occasion, however, I happened to be at their shop when one of Lee’s customers was in quite some pain while getting his wrist tattooed. He asked for my help and I was able to successfully hypnotise him and completely remove the pain without interrupting Lee’s work”
